Gio Gonzalez Makes Spectacular Catch, Bryce Harper Does Not

The Nationals lost their ninth straight game to the Braves Tuesday (dating back to last season) and third straight overall in an 8-1 loss Monday. The Nationals dropped to 13-14 on the season, 4.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East.

Since I don't want to be a complete downer, the lone bright spot for Washington was a spectacular diving catch by Gio Gonzalez on a Andrelton Simmons bunt attempt in the second inning.

Meanwhile, Bryce Harper had an almost-spectacular catch, but he ultimately helped Tim Hudson hit his first home run in almost two years.

You won't be seeing that in "Bryce Begins II."

Monday's game was really about Hudson, who won his 200th career game and became the second pitcher to reach that milestone and hit a home run in the same game (Cleveland's Bob Lemon did in 1956, according to Elias Sports Bureau). Coincidentally, Davey Johnson was the opposing manager for Hudson's first win in 1999 and his 200th Monday.

"It was Hudson's night," Gonzalez told reporters. "Tip your cap."
