Tom Cable Is New Oakland Raiders Coach

The Oakland Raiders will install Tom Cable as their new head coach today, Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting.

Cable takes the place of Lane Kiffin, who was fired today.

The 43-year-old Cable was head coach at Idaho from 2000 to 2003, where he compiled an 11-35 record. He played his college ball at Idaho and briefly played for the Indianapolis Colts in 1987, and has had several stops as an assistant coach since then, including working as offensive line coach of the Falcons and as offensive coordinator at UCLA.

The selection of Cable is a bit of a surprise, as reports earlier this season indicated that Raiders owner Al Davis was considering either James Lofton, Paul Hackett or Rob Ryan for the job.
