Johnson Holds Off Banzai Edwards at Kansas

Now that's a move that we've all tried on our NASCAR video games before.

Carl Edwards swept around Jimmie Johnson in the final corners of Sunday's Camping World 400 at Kansas Speedway, but swept too far as the No. 99 Ford grazed the turn four wall and Johnson's No. 48 powered back by to give a 2008 Chase for the Sprint Cup win to someone not named Greg Biffle.

The win for Johnson was his 12th overall in Chase competition (that's a telling stat as to why he's the two-time defending champion) and also gave him a 10-point lead in the Chase, though his crew chief Chad Knaus virtually laughed off such a marginal lead during a post-race television interview.

And Knaus is right.

Simply, this fight for the championship is extremely tight considering Johnson's 2nd-place average finish has given him a lead, while Greg Biffle, who was won two of the three races, sits in third, 30 points behind Johnson. Aside from the tight race between Johnson, Edwards, and Biffle, the rest of the Chase field has remained extremely competitive despite not being able to keep pace in the points.

As for the race, the rest of the Top-5 outside of the trifecta that need a nickname included Jeff Gordon (fourth) and Matt Kenseth (fifth) -- both of which were impressive runs after one fought an illness all weekend and the other spun mid way through the race, respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing continued its complete, total and utter Chase destruction at Kansas after Kyle Busch had a fuel problem that put him a lap down and later had severe handling problems, Tony Stewart spun across the infield in the race's mid-section and broke his front splitter brackets that brought lengthy repairs, and Denny Hamlin finished an unimpressive 11th.
