Best Name in College Basketball Coming Back to UMD

Vasquez withdraws from NBA draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The man with the best name in college basketball will keep the ACC Greivising for another a season.

Greivis Vasquez made the near-last-minute decision Monday to pull out of the NBA draft and return to the University of Maryland for his senior season, the Washington Examiner reported.

The assumption is that the star and leader of the Terrapins would be a bench player in the NBA at best. Sources said he couldn't find a guarantee that he'd be drafted so he withdrew, allowing him to go back to school. Coach Gary Williams expects Vasquez to be a top 20 pick next year.

Colorful, passionate and outspoken, the Venezuelan point guard is one of the most popular players in Terps history.

He led the late-season run that carried Maryland over the bubble, into the NCAA tournament and past the first round.

Vasquez led the team with 17.5 points and 5 assists per game and also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals.
