What's in a Number? Agent Zero is No More

When Gilbert Arenas comes back to basketball, he will no longer be a zero

It looks like the end of Agent Zero. No, the Wizards star isn’t going anywhere, yet. He is planning to change his jersey number.

The team confirmed to the Washington Post that Gilbert Arenas formally submitted paperwork with the NBA to drop the No. 0 and become No. 6.

Of course, it’s unclear when he will actually get to don the new number. Arenas is awaiting sentencing for a gun charge in relation to the locker room incident when he admitted to taking out three guns during an argument with a teammate.

Arenas will find no argument about his pending change from teammate Mike Miller, the Wizard who currently wears No. 6.

TruthAboutIt.net reported that Miller said Arenas called him and asked if he would mind changing numbers, and Miller told Arenas he could have it. Miller said he may pick up No. 33, if you’re keeping score at home.

It’s unclear why Arenas wants to make this switch, especially now. Recently, the NBA’s scoring leader LeBron James announced that he, too, is going to be No. 6 next year. James, who currently wears No. 23, says he is making the switch to honor Michael Jordan. Arenas offered no such explanation, and since his blog is no longer operational we may not find out for a while.

Arenas has always been synonymous with No. 0. He wore it in college at the University of Arizona. His charity is called the “Zero Two Hero Foundation.” He even did a television commercial about it.

So without the zero, what persona should Arenas take on?

Agent 6?

Deep 6?

Six Shooter? Uh, on second thought, scratch that last one...
