The Washington Nationals' Night OUT event Tuesday will honor the victims of the nightclub shootings in Orlando, Florida.
Tuesday marks the baseball team's 12th annual Night OUT event, which was scheduled long before Sunday's mass shooting in the nightclub. The program will include performances of the National Anthem and "True Colors" by the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington and a flag unfurling on the field.
The Night OUT series is the largest LGBT community event in U.S. professional sports. The outfield seats are reserved for Night OUT attendees, and more than 3,500 people are expected to attend.
The event is sponsored by Team DC, a charitable organization that educates the LGBT community of the benefits of sports participation.
Gates at National Park will open at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The game between the Nationals and the Chicago Cubs will begin at 7:05 p.m. Until the game starts, there will be a pre-game DJ party and activities with special guests such as comedian Leslie Jordan, Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson and Congresswoman Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.)
Tickets are $28, which includes a $7 donation to Team DC's scholarship fund. The scholarship is for LGBT student-athletes who have improved views of the LGBT community in academics and sports.
