Vinny Cerrato showed up for his radio show today on Dan Snyder’s WTEM. Sort of.
Cerrato skipped Monday’s broadcast of “Inside the Red Zone with Vinny Cerrato,” so this program should have provided fans their first shot at the Redskins executive vice president, football operations since the team’s latest crap-like performance in Baltimore and subsequent Portis/Zorn turmoil.
Last week, after a crap-like performance versus the Giants, Cerrato came on the air and allowed callers to vent. Boy howdy, did they.
“I’m going to blame the person they say is in charge,” one caller huffed to Cerrato. “If that’s you, you need to step down or hire somebody who knows what they’re doing. You don’t know what you’re doing when it comes to picking players.
But this time around, Cerrato spent his entire show turtling. He not only avoided fans — no open caller segments, which were a highlight of previous broadcasts — but also talked everything but Redskins.
Cerrato brought in the Washington Post’s beat writers for Maryland and Virginia football, for example. Why not bring on the paper’s Redskins beat reporter?
Jason La Canfora’s the whole reason Vinny’s got a radio show, after all.
Bottom line: This was like a NASCAR race with no yellows. Cerrato’s show ain’t long for the airwaves.
