United Claws Its Way to Tie Revs 1-1

Moreno saves team from total loss, grabs 100th assist

Ben Olsen got it in, but it was Jaime Moreno's hundredth assist that set up D.C. United's second-half 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution Friday night at RFK Stadium.

"I would have preferred to score that goal I missed, but these are numbers that matter," Moreno said, according to USSoccer Players. "It's the work of 13, 14 years. I keep working and I hope I can continue to help DC."

Moreno became the first Major League Soccer player with 100 goals and 100 career assists on Friday.  He is currently 5th for all-time assists, trailing Marco Etcheverry by a goal at 4th.  New England's Steve Ralston is the all-time MLS assists leader with 129 and the only active player ahead of Moreno, USSoccerPlayers reported.

Olse, meanwhile, also did well.  His tie-scoring goal was his 29th MLS career goal.

While it could've been an easy win for United, a few fine saves from Rev keeper Brad Knighton, combined with some rough finishing, kept New England in the thick of things, according to DCist.

United's next match will be on Wednesday, when they'll play FC Dallas at RFK -- and have their first chance to defend their 2008 U.S. Open Cup title
