Take a Walk, Kevin Durant

The idea of being an athlete at the 2012 London Games has finally sunk in for D.C.-area basketball star Kevin Durant.

Now that he's in the Olympic Village and is seeing some of the greatest competitors in the world, the key member of Team USA knows what's at stake.

"Everything hit me when I got back to my room last night and I thought about the elite company of athletes here representing all the countries in the world," he said. "It's great to be a part of that."

And what is Durant really looking forward to seeing during his downtime? How about some Olympic walking?

According to the Associated Press, the Oklahoma Thunder star singled out the event Friday when he was asked what he plans to watch in London.

"I want to watch some speed walking," he told the AP. "I didn't even know that was an Olympic sport."

While the competitors probably would be thrilled to have the NBA star check out their event, they'd also probably want him to get the name right.

It's race walking, not speed walking. But we're sure the walkers appreciate the shoutout, anyway.
