Saturday Rewind: Week Six

It's almost as if Mike Leach and Graham Harrell looked at each other and said let's show them how this is done, went out and took it to Kansas State, and in doing so made a little statement of their own. After seeing the Heisman-worthy beginnings from Chase Daniel, Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford, the program that introduced all this crazy spread em out and wing it around stuff to the Big Twelve put on the type of air show we've been waiting for in 2008.

Throwing 38-51, with 454 yards and seven scores (six passing) Harrell and his Red Raiders had 58 points with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Lyle Leong and Michael Crabtree were the prime beneficiaries of Harrell's reemergence as the two combined for five of Harrell's six touchdown passes.

Graham Harrell threw for three scores in his first two games. He's thrown 15 in the last three games, albeit against SMU, Massachusetts, and Kansas State. However, as discussed here on numerous occasions, the Big Twelve isn't loaded with defensive heavyweights, and the Red Raiders welcome a struggling Nebraska squad to Lubbock next weekend. Then come consecutive trips to College Station and Lawrence, and recent returns show neither defense is especially stout.

Many owners have been rightfully disappointed after spending a top draft pick on Tim Tebow. And those that invested the first pick in Graham Harrell or Michael Crabtree (myself included) have been hoping that these two Red Raiders would return to their form of a season ago. After all, even though scoring is down, guys that listen to Mike Leach are supposed to be among the few sure things in this crazy college fantasy football world.

Graham Harrell now sits atop the BCS quarterback rankings with 187 fantasy points on the season. Michael Crabtree is second only to the amazing Dez Bryant among wide receivers, as the stud sophomore currently sits with 85 fantasy points. While many players are looking at tough conference slugfests on the horizon, these two are healthy and hitting their stride as they begin a conference slate full of suspect defenses. The world hasn't gone completely mad.

The Shun White Award Goes to.

Collin Mooney, the senior fullback for Army. The senior from Katy, Texas, who according to GoArmy.com once broke his nose while chasing a cow, carried 19 times for 187 yards and four scores in the win over Tulane.

Other Running Back Explosions

Seven backs scored three or more touchdowns this week, and none are named Ringer, Brown or Hunter.

Tyrell Fenroy absolutely exploded to the tune of 20-297-3, and next week he gets to play NORTH TEXAS! Are we looking at the number one back on week seven's running back board?

In last week's Start or Sit I included Antone Smith.on the sit list. And the senior Seminole came out and put up a career performance. 27-92-4 will do a little damage to my "Sit Average."

More Random Musings from Week Six:

Georgia Tech's Demaryius Thomas caught nine balls for 230 yards and a score. In fact the Yellow Jackets' number one receiver caught every pass completed by Jaybo Shaw. Mike Leach, are you paying attention?

Cincinnati's Chazz Anderson was impressive Friday night in Huntington, West Virginia. Despite their horrible luck at quarterback, the Bearcats are sitting at 4-1, with their only loss coming in Norman. Brian Kelly can coach, and his quarterbacks will always be fantasy worthy.

LeSean McCoy is primed for a MAJOR fantasy move down the stretch. He was a stud in the upset win over South Florida (did you see that move to get to the goal line at the end?) and he won't face any defenses that will be able to shut him down entirely. Look for McCoy to move past the likes of Javon Ringer and Kory Sheets. Methinks the running back leaders will look very different at the end of November.

Well Chris Crane sure jumped off the stat sheet didn't he? The potential for blowup weeks will remain.

I challenge anyone to name a time in college football history when a BCS conference saw more quarterback production than the Big Twelve's 2008 version. At this very moment Zac Robinson sits eighth among Big Twelve quarterbacks. Eighth, and he's having a great season.

Rice's James Casey has more fantasy points than Michael Crabtree.

He may not get you yards, but teams in need of some points from their running back may look at Kahlil Bell. He's scored twice in each of the last two games.

LeGarrette Blount carried the ball nine times against USC for an average of 0 yards per carry.

Top Waiver Wire Pickups

QB Trevor Vittatoe, UTEP - After a slow start, Vittatoe and the Miners are starting to crank it up. Vittatoe has seven touchdowns in the last two weeks. With the likes of Tulsa, Rice SMU and Houston still on the schedule, look for some more points out of Vittatoe.

QB Kellen Moore, Boise State - With teams loading the box to stop Johnson, Moore is finding wide open receivers. Moore should only continue to improve and a solid backup or spot starter on your roster.

RB Glen Coffee, Alabama - Coffee has stepped up his game in 2008 and the power run game fits Coffee's style. Ingram is still going to be a factor, but Saban will feed the veteran as long as he keeps running like this.

RB Darren Evans, Virginia Tech - With Kenny Lewis out for the year with a ruptured Achilles the door is wide open for Evans. Evans has scored a touchdown in every game this season, including two on Saturday. If your not already, it's time to ride Evans.

RB Antone Smith, Florida State - Is this finally the year for Antone? Better late than never, and he looks like a different back.

WR Damian Williams, USC - There are a lot of wide receiver options for the Trojans, but Williams is emerging as the top target and should be good for a TD a game.

WR Carlos Singleton, Memphis - Singleton was money down the stretch last year and could be again this year. He might not be a top end starter, but a nice fill-in.
