Redskins Release Derrick Dockery, Andre Carter

The Redskins have released offensive lineman Derrick Dockery and linebacker Andre Carter, NBC Washington's Lindsay Czarniak has confirmed.

Dockery, an eight-year vet, spent two stints in Washington. He was drafted by the team in 2003 and was an entrenched starter on the line from Week 4 on until he signed with Buffalo before the 2007 season. He returned to the Redskins in 2009 after the Bills waived him and he started all 16 games that season.

Last season, however, was a different story. He started just two games and played in a total of five for new coach Mike Shanahan, who clearly was looking for a different fit on his offensive line.

Dockery, 30, would have been paid nearly $4 million this season had the Redskins kept him around, according to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan. Dockery told Paulsen that he has no hard feelings about his release and that he's excited about moving on to another organization.

In five seasons with Washington, Carter played in 80 games, including 67 starts, and tallied 34 sacks. He started five games in 2010, amassing 59 tackles (41 solo) and 2.5 sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
