Redskins Chase Undrafted QB

Daniel headed to Washington

The Redskins didn't draft Mark Sanchez, or any quarterback, for that matter, over the weekend in the NFL Draft.

So where will the team's fourth QB come from to round out coach Jim Zorn's competition in training camp?

The Skins on Monday signed undrafted rookie Chase Daniel to a free-agent deal.

The Missouri QB told the Kansas City Star Sunday night it was a done deal and that he's heading to minicamp on Thursday.

“(Redskins assistant) Chris Meidt was the guy that worked me out at the combine, and he really liked me," Daniel told the paper. "I talked to (head) coach (Jim) Zorn a couple of times. I’m excited about the opportunity they presented.”

The Redskins currently have Jason Campbell, Todd Collins and Colt Brennan on the roster, but they would love for someone other than Collins to step up and be the backup to Campbell so they can free up some salary.

It's hard to believe Daniel could be that QB. All hope points to Brennan. But Daniel did throw for more than 12,000 yards in Mizzou's spread offense and won two Big 12 North titles while hooking up with Jeremy Maclin, who was drafted in the first round by the Eagles.

Daniel was also a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2007. The knock on Daniel? His height. He stands all of 6 feet tall.

“He proved everybody wrong at Missouri, and now he has the chance to do the same thing (in the NFL),” his agent, Jeff Nalley told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I wouldn't bet against him.”
