NEW YORK -- One day day after the Baltimore Ravens lost the AFC Championship Game, they apparently lost their defensive coordinator.
Rex Ryan, mastermind of the Ravens' nasty-as-they-wanna-be defense, bolted Baltimore Monday to become the head coach of the New York Jets, according to reports.
The Jets have reached an agreement with Ryan, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the four-year deal was not yet finalized, said it was expected to be done in the next few days.
Ryan, 46, replaces the fired Eric Mangini and takes over a team that started last season 8-3, but missed the playoffs with quarterback Brett Favre after losing four of its last five games.
Ryan is expected to be formally introduced at a news conference Wednesday at the Jets' facility in Florham Park, N.J.
