Predicting a Win for the ‘Skins

Haynesworth, Hall and Sellers are out

Just because the Washington Redskins have already lost their chance to make the Superbowl playoffs, it doesn't mean they can't beat their three game losing streak today against the Oakland Raiders.

Sure, we know Washington well enough to know a 21-point lead is not safe with 2 minutes left, but the Washington Examiner and Seattlepi.com are actually predicting a win for the 'Skins.

From the Examiner:

Don’t feel good about this one with DeAngelo Hall and Albert Haynesworth likely out. But it’s hard to imagine a Gradkowski repeat. OK, not that hard. Still ...

Redskins 17, Raiders 16

With Haynesworth hobbling around with a walking boot and Hall battling a knee injury, the defensive tackle and cornerback are definitely out, respectively. Fullback Mike Sellers is out too, with a thigh injury.

No matter. Seattlepi.com's predicting a whopping 23-10 win for the 'Skins:

Sunday's matchup between the Redskins and Raiders won't shatter the Nielsen television ratings, but will produce enough popularity around the league. Both teams have been playing better than their respective records have shown, with the Redskins having more momentum on their side thanks to recent play against three of the better franchises in the NFL.

This could be one of Zorn's last games at the helm in D.C., so a win is obviously needed to keep his job status stable. But in this "what have you done for me lately?" NFL world, Zorn could be on his way out regardless of Sunday's outcome or what Washington does the remainder of the season. That would be a tough pill to swallow for Zorn, who will still be waiting for the guillotine to drop even after the Redskins leave the Bay Area with a double-digit victory.

But RealFootball365 says not so fast -- for either the 'Skins or the Raiders:

The only thing these two teams do show consistently is the ability to lose winnable games. Looking over their stats and examining the teams on paper, both should be doing far better than their record indicates. However, a team’s record is a direct indicator of how good a team really is and these two are just plain bad.

Ouch.

That's OK. Some of us are still holding out for the home team. The game starts at 4:05 p.m. ET in Oakland.
