Ovie Coolest Kid in Sports?

ESPN survey tackles tough questions

All of the Washington metro area agrees that Alex Ovechkin's the coolest player in the NHL.  Sidney Crosby who?  Puh-leese...

But is he cooler than Tiger Woods? How about LeBron James?

Now's the District's chance to Rock the Red and vote for Ovie as the coolest kid in all of sports. That "Fear and Loathing" get-up he sported during the All-Star Game has to count for some coolness points, eh?

That's just one of the many questions posed by a State of the Sports Union survey on ESPN.com.

Some are thought provoking, such what you'd rather do out of the following list:

  • Hang out as Derek Jeter's wingman for an evening
  • Go clubbing with Charles Barkley
  • Play a round of golf with John Daly
  • Watch a game with Mark Cuban
  • Party with Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson

While other questions are more lame than cool, such as "Where do you wear your jersey?"

  • Only if I attend the game in person or at a sports bar
  • At a game or around the house
  • Anywhere, anytime

All in all, it's a fun survey to take, especially if you're an Ovechkin fan.

Alex missed out on being voted into the starting lineup of the All-Star Game, but perhaps he can persuade some people to show some love for coolness points.

He gets style points for his hat and sunglasses combo during the All-Star Game, but he also has to garner some votes for being able to win back-to-back breakaway contests without actually scoring a goal(!!!).  And then there was the whole getting caught gawking at some girls on the JumboTron in front of an international audience and not giving a you-know-what.  That's bold.  That's fresh.  That's where it's at.

So who is he up against? Take a look at the (long) list:

  • David Beckham
  • Tom Brady
  • Kobe Bryant
  • Sidney Crosby
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  • Larry Fitzgerald
  • LeBron James
  • Derek Jeter
  • Rafael Nadal
  • Troy Polamalu
  • Ben Roethlisberger
  • Tim Tebow
  • Shaun White
  • Tiger Woods
