Not So Sweet, Terps Fall to Memphis

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Terps will miss out on the Sweet 16 again after getting blown out by the Memphis Tigers in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Maryland fell to Memphis 89-70.

Point guard Greivis Vasquez led the way for Gary Williams' Terrapins putting up 18 points and four assists. Vasquez never took a free throw -- a big problem for the undersized Terps was getting to the line.

Tyreke Evans scored 19 points and Memphis shot a sizzling 70 percent in the first half. The Tigers awakened from their first-round slumber and belted the 10th-seeded Terps.

Memphis' Roburt Sallie, the surprise hero of Thursday's hard-fought victory over No. 15 seed Cal State Northridge, came off the bench and kept up his three-point onslaught by hitting his first three, making him 13-for-19 for the tourney.

Memphis' Shawn Taggart had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The second-seeded Tigers (33-3) knocked the Terps (21-14) on the ropes with a 9-0 run in the opening minutes and led by as many as 23 while mounting a 53-33 halftime lead.
