Nats Skidding Into Home

Team might stink, but there's hope, right?

Chins up, Nats fans!  Look on the bright side: the Nationals haven't been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.  Although if you give them another fortnight, anything is possible.

The Nats bring their non-exciting, losing-filled ways back to D.C. Monday for the home opener.  You can practically feel the excitement in the air -- though depending on your choice of breakfast meat, it could just be gas.

For what seems like the 15th consecutive season, the Nats' execrable play has buried them early, killing whatever hope that flourished during the optimistic days of spring.

Those visions of .500 ball?  Poof.

Those visions of competitive ball?  Poof.

Those visions of a stating pitcher with an ERA under 7?  Poof.

At this point, Nats fans have to do all they can to imagine one single, solitary, lone win.  They'll take it anyway they can get it!

But what a better time to get that than at the home opener?  With all the pomp, the over-sized flags, the David Gregory appearances, could you think of a better time?  (Besides any of these last six games)

Oh, sure, we've got Danny Cabrera making his home debut.  And, yeah, it's against the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, who were personally welcomed to town by Stan Kasten.

But you've gotta have a little bit of hope left, right?

No?

That's sad.

Thanks for everything, Jim and Stan.
