NFL Beefs Up Security at Stadium Gates

If you’re planning on going to FedEx Field this Sunday, or to any other NFL stadium, you might want to arrive a little earlier than normal.

The NFL is asking all 32 clubs to use “enhanced pat-down procedures” for anyone going through the gate.

Fans will be patted down from the ankles to the knees as well as the waist up.

The NFL says there will be longer lines at the gates, and is asking for patience and understanding.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told USA Today that “the enhanced security procedures recommended by our office before the start of the season will further increase the safety of fans but will require some additional time. We encourage fans to be patient as they enter the stadium.”

Officials say this increase in security is not in response to a specific threat, and is simply to keep the fans and players safe.
