Maryland, Virginia Basketball Players Honored by ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guards Greivis Vasquez, of Maryland, and Sylven Landesberg, of Virginia, have received the weekly honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Vasquez took the player of the week honor after he averaged 27 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3 steals as the Terps posted wins over Youngstown State and Vermont.

In the overtime win against Vermont, Vasquez hit a 3-point shot with six seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and complete a Maryland comeback that had the Terps down five points with 2:40 left.

Landesberg was chosen rookie of the week. He averaged 21.5 points and 4 rebounds in a pair of 2-point victories over South Florida and Radford. He is the first freshman in Virginia history to score at least 20 points in each of his first three collegiate games.
