Maryland Prepares for First March Madness Match

March Madness is just around the corner and the Maryland Terrapins have earned a six seed in the East Region after Selection Sunday.

The Terrapins will see their first NCAA tourney action Thursday, March 21, when they face off with the winner of the Belmont Bruins/Temple University Owls First Four game, which will be played on Tuesday.

The game in Jacksonville, Florida, will be the first step for the Terps as they hope to make it back to the D.C. area in the Sweet 16. The East Regional will be held at Capital One Arena, and could feature the Duke Blue Devils and freshman sensation Zion Williamson.

Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday, who has joined the News4 Sports team, caught up with Maryland Head Coach Mark Turgeon moments after hearing where his team would be headed in the NCAA Tournament.

"The best thing is Maryland came up and it was there for 10 or 15 seconds by itself and you couldn't hear anything. The guys were just going nuts. And I don't think they really cared at the time what popped up. They were just so excited in playing in Jacksonville," Turgeon said.
