UMD Women's Basketball Is AP Preseason No. 3

Virginia, Old Dominion crack Top 25

The University of Maryland's women's basketball team is third in The Associated Press rankings heading into the season.

Connecticut is back in familiar territory at No. 1 in the poll. This is the first time in five seasons and the sixth time in school history UConn will enter the regular season at the top of the AP rankings.

The Huskies received 44 of the 45 first-place votes from a national media panel. No. 2 Stanford drew the other first-place ballot. UConn lost to Stanford in the Final Four last season.

Maryland is followed by Oklahoma and Rutgers.

The second five consists of North Carolina, two-time defending champion Tennessee, Duke, California and Louisville.

Texas A&M is No. 11, followed by Vanderbilt, Texas, Oklahoma State and No. 15 Virginia.

Notre Dame, Arizona State, Ohio State, Baylor and Auburn complete the first 20, followed by Florida State, Xavier, Purdue, LSU and Old Dominion.
