Washington has another Hall of Famer. Everyone's favorite "Slapshot" extra was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame Monday.
Although his cherubic shape and smile make it hard to imagine, Bruce Boudreauplayed for 17 years, finishing 11th all-time in AHL scoring. While he wasn't Ovie with the puck, the center plugged away, amassing a number of 100-point seasons and one AHL scoring title.
After retiring as a player from the AHL in 1992, he coached for a few seasons in the IHL and ECHL before joining the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters. His teams made the playoffs every season and he ultimately sipped from the Calder Cup as an AHL Champion with the Caps' farm team, the Hershey Bears.
He's definitely shown he's capable of similar feats on the higher level. Last year's turn-around has grown into big expectations this season.
Gabby's certainly aware of that. As he said at the ceremony, "A lot of good things have happened to me. This is like icing on the cake. I'd like one more real good thing as a team thing to happen [by winning the Stanley Cup]. Why change the luck now? We might as well go for that, as well."
Caps fans certainly agree with the sentiment. If it happens, just think of the commercials the newest and most lovable Hall of Famer will be able to star in.
