Former MVP Alexander Signs With Skins

Washington Redskins add new punter, too

The Washington Redskins hope Shaun Alexander has some MVP-type skills left in his legs.

The Redskins signed the former NFL MVP Tuesday to fill in for injured running back Ladell Betts.  Alexander, 31, will wear No. 35 for Washington.  He spent eight years with the Seattle Seahawks and rushed for 9,429 yards and 100 touchdowns on 2,176 carries.

The Redskins also signed former Seahawks punter Ryan Plackenmeier, who replaces an underachieving Durant Brooks.  Brooks was waived.  The team also signed safety Mike Green, another former Seahawk, and released safety Justin Hamilton.

Safety Reed Doughty was placed on injured reserve with a back injury.
