The triathlete mayor put his often discussed training to the test Sunday.
Adrian Fenty and some 2,500 others participated in a triathlon in the nation's capital.
The race included a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, a 40k bike route that passed the Washington Monument and White House (but avoided the Clara Barton Parkway), and a 10k run that passed the U.S. Capitol.
Drivers were warned about road closures for the event. West Potomac Park will be closed until 4 p.m., and the following roads were closed until about 11 a.m.:
- Independence Avenue from 14th Street to 23rd Street
- Constitution Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue to 23rd Street
- Rock Creek Parkway from Calvert Street to Ohio Drive
- Parkway Drive
- Daniel French Drive
The race was expected to conclude by 11:30 a.m.
