Chase Is on for Skins Backup QB Job

Daniel outplays Brennan so far

Colt Brennan who?

When the pre-season began, one of the big questions was whether Colt Brennan could unseat Todd Collins as the No. 2 quarterback.  Two games in, and that one has been answered: no chance.

But there's a new question now.  Will Colt make the team?

Hot on the Hawaiian's heels is Chase Daniel, the QB the Skins picked up as an undrafted free agent out of Mizzou.  Daniel threw two second-half touchdowns in this weekend's 17-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Daniel completed 6 of 8 with those two touchdown passes (the only ones the Skins have had so far this summer).  Colt, on the other hand, was just 3 for 5 with another interception -- a really poor throw and an even worse decision.

Coach Zorn had praise for Daniel, saying that he "was excited for a guy not getting a lot of reps to perform with some poise."

OK, so maybe that's not the most glowing praise anyone's ever heard, but it's better than anything Zorny would've said about Brennan -- and "poise" is almost certainly not a word most would use when describing Colt.

While the Skins have cracked down on any media Twittering, Daniel apparently still has the Snyder seal of approval.  After getting a bunch of compliments on his play, Daniel twittered his thanks and said, "Great feeling to play well, but most importantly we WON!"

Such a team-first guy.

Daniel's clearly outplayed Brennan so far.  But is it enough? Will the undrafted guy beat out the second-year sixth-rounder?  Coach Zorn says he's "right in the mix."

But Zorn also indicated that it's too early to make that final decision.  The first-team offense will play the first half of the next pre-season game (they can certainly use the work!), leaving the final game as the Daniel/Colt showdown.

It'll be a great opportunity for Chase.  It will certainly have the Cult of Colt munching on their fingernails.
