Caps Ready to Rock the Rangers

Caps should win unless Lundqvist stands on his head

Don't say that Ovechkin is Broadway Bound.  King Henrik's the one doing the traveling, leading his Rangers team to what Caps fans hope will be a quick and easy defeat in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

If the regular season games were any sign, it should be entertaining.

The Caps won three of the four games, with two of them going to OT.  All were close, competitive games.

But it was the pre-Christmas game that probably sticks in the mind of most Caps fans.  Down 4-zippo in the second period, the Caps rallied furiously to tie the game -- thanks to Ovie's two goals.  And Shaone Morrisonn added the game-winner in OT, stealing two points for the good guys.

Despite the happy memories, the idea of Henrik Lundqvist in the net has to scare Caps fans, if only a tiny bit.

He's one of the top goalies in the league.  When he's on, not much gets past him.  He's as capable as anyone of stealing a few games in the series.

Another worry is the Rangers penalty kill.  They were tops in the league, with an 88 percent success rate.  The Caps often thrived thanks to the power play; they had the second best power play in the league, a tick below Detroit's.

Strength versus strength will be fun to watch.

On the other side, the Rangers have a lousy power play.  That doesn't mean, though, that the Caps can afford to continue to take all those unnecessary minor penalties.

Still, the Caps are the better team, but in the NHL -- especially in the first round -- the better team doesn't always win.  Ovie needs to be on his game -- and with the cameras around, you know he will be.   And the whole group needs to take advantage of a scrambling Rangers team that hasn't yet found a cohesive style of play.

If they put the boot down early, it could be a short series.
