Caps' Beard-a-thon is Back

We all know Sidney Crosby grows a pretty pathetic playoff beard. Hey, not everyone can be Mike Commodore, I guess (present writer included).

But if you think you've got the (mutton) chops to out-beard the guys on the ice, this is your chance. The Capitals, Penguins and many other playoff-bound teams have started online campaigns to see who can grow the best playoff facial hair.

And relax, ladies, it's for charity!

The Capitals' Beard-a-thon allows people to create their own profiles and keep track of their beard growth.

Those who can't get the whiskers going can still follow along and pledge money for their favorites. Money raised will benefit the Fort Dupont Ice Arena, which has fallen into some financial despair, so the cash will be a huge help. The fan who raises the most money will win a Caps VIP Game Experience, including tickets, a ride on the Zamboni and a meet-and-greet with a Caps player of their choice.

For more information or to enroll a beard, log on to http://beardathon.com/capitals. If you want to laugh at the beards in Pittsburgh, go to http://www.beardathon.com/penguins.

But remember, about 1,700 Pens fans took part last year compared to only 800 Caps fans. You gonna take that kind of beating two years in a row, Washington? Come on, do it for the kids!
