Dan Boyle #22, Sidney Crosby #87 and Chris Pronger #20 of Canada celebrate with the gold medals won during the ice hockey men's gold medal game between the U.S. and Canada.

It was fun, U.S. men's hockey team, but lightning didn't strike twice.

The U.S. mens' unlikely run to the Gold Medal Match ended with an overtime loss, as Sidney Crosby broke a 2-2 tie eight minutes into the overtime period and sent the Canadian crowd into delirium on the final day of the Vancouver Games.

The U.S. team settled for a silver medal, still far exceeding expectations.

Team USA, which had previously never trailed the entire Olympics, fell behind in the first period when Canada's Jonathan Toews ended Ryan Miller's Olympic scoreless goal tending streak at nearly 140 minutes. Corey Perry made it 2-0 with a goal eight minutes into the second period.

Ryan Kesler scored a second period goal with an assist from teammate Patrick Kane, making it 2-1, but the Canadian lead held strong.

With the Canadian home crowd going berserk and just 25 seconds away from a 2-1 gold medal win, Team Canada allowed the U.S. team to shock them again and tie the game 2-2 on a Zach Parise goal. The match would be decided by sudden death overtime.

But Miracle II would not be in the cards for the U.S. men. Sidney Crosby snuffed the sequel with an overtime goal and the gold medal win.
