Quarterfinals

United States-Egypt

Fresh off winning a silver medal in the men's individual foil, Alexander Massialas was the first to take the piste for Team USA against Tarek Ayad of Egypt. Massialas set up his teammates with a 5-3 lead.

Gerek Meinhardt struggled in the second as Egypt's Alaaeldin Abouelkassem out scored the 26-year-old 7-2. Miles Chamley-Watson put up four points in the third but the Americans still trailed by 4.

Meinhardt redeemed himself against Ayad, who has visibly frustrated throughout the bout, scoring six points in the third to put the U.S. within two points of tying.

Massialas tied the bout three times in the fifth and re-gained a one point lead for the U.S. Chamley-Watson created distance as he put up 10 points combined in the sixth and eighth.

The U.S. went on to win 45-37.

Italy-Brazil

Brazil's Ghislain Perrier got Brazil off to a surprising 5-3 start over the Italians, besting veteran Andrea Cassara in the first bout. But the tides quickly shifted with Daniele Garrozzo scoring seven points to give the Italians a 10-7 lead they never relinquished.

The Italians dominated the host country 45-27.

China-France

France set the tone early in their bout as Jeremy Cadot scored 5 consecutive points to opening the bout while blanking China's Haiwei Cheng.

China trailed most of the match until Jianfei Ma outscored Cadot 8-4 in the eighth to put China ahead 40-39. Erwan Le Pechoux would secure France's victory in the final period, only allowing Chen to score two points, winning 45-42.

Russia-Great Britain

With neither team trailing the other by more than five points, they fought a close bout that ended with Russia taking a 45-43 victory despite Great Britain's James-Andrew Davis's 6-5 win in his bout with Alexey Cheremisinov in the final period.
