Ain't No Love in the Heart of College Park

Gary Williams is experiencing a nouveau 'Season On The Brink'

Gary Williams can't get no love these days, and Maryland faithful are singing the blues.

Fans are getting peeved, bloggers are getting distraught, recruits are nowhere to be found, and the coach's own athletic department is calling him out. Heck, even Williams' anti-perspirant hasn't shown him any affection, ever.

So what's Coach Sweaty McSweat-A-Lot supposed to do?

Bowing out gracefully is teetering on the slippery slope toward a ruined legacy.

Ok, that may be a little dramatic. Williams did bring a championship to College Park, in addition to being a self-proclaimed basketball pioneer.

But now the only answer is for Williams to step down.

Maybe he can take a seat next to Bobby Knight on ESPN and perhaps decelerate the aging that's been rapidly advancing due to coaching stress.

In the end, Gary needs to remember that it's not all about Gary. It's about the program.

If Maryland wants to return to basketball relevancy, they must move on past the Williams era and find a coach with local ties who can re-establish recruiting in the basketball hotbed that is the DMV area.

Until this happens, bet that the Terps will be nothing more than a shell of a team.
