AT&T National Third Round Will Go Ahead, Fans Kept Away

Fans, volunteers turned away Saturday morning, Saturday tickets will be honored Sunday

The third round of the PGA Tour AT&T National tournament will take place Saturday at Congressional Country Club.

According to the tournament's official Twitter account, the 80 players to survive Friday's cut will begin play at 1:00 p.m. on a two-tee start. 42 players will start from the first tee, while 38 will begin play at the 10th tee.

The final tee time is set for 3:10 p.m.

The tournament was officially suspended early Saturday morning after a massive storm overnight left several trees on the ground at Congressional. Fans and volunteers were turned away from the course Saturday, with the promise that their tickets would be honored for Sunday's scheduled final round.

The storm caused power outages and downed trees throughout the region.

Among the problems at Congressional were scattered trees, including a 75-foot tree that crashed down on the 14th hole fairway. Nearly every fairway, especially on the back nine, was littered with limbs -- large and small.

Some tents were blown over, and the wooden sign identifying the 11th hole was ripped from its post on the tee box.

"Winds in the range of 70-80 mph were reported,'' according to a statement issued by the PGA Tour earlier Saturday. "No confirmation has been made on a tornado. There are trees and tents down all over the course and roads leading to the course. Clean-up has begun. Electricity is out at the course.''
