Turnovers cost Maryland big time in loss to Panthers

PITTSBURGH  -- Shavonte Zellous scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half to lead No. 24 Pittsburgh to an 86-57 upset of No. 8 Maryland on Sunday.

Xenia Stewart had 22 points, Shayla Scott added 13 and Taneisha Harrison had a career-high 12 assists for Pittsburgh (6-1), which won its sixth straight and beat a top 10 opponent for the second time in school history.

Kristi Toliver scored 12 points and Lynetta Kizer had 10 for Maryland (7-2), which committed 22 turnovers in losing for the first time since a season-opening defeat at Texas Christian.

Pittsburgh scored the first six points of the second half behind a free throw from Harrison, a basket from Pepper Wilson, and a 3-pointer from Zellous for a 45-32 lead.

The Panthers led by no fewer than 10 points the rest of the game.
