2 Terps, 2 Cavs Land on All-ACC Team

Toliver, Coleman lead Maryland into ACC tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Maryland and Virginia each placed two women's basketball players on the all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team.

The ACC announced its all-league team Monday, and it was led by Terrapins stars Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver.

Joining them on the first team were Cavaliers standouts Lyndra Littles and Monica Wright and Duke center Chante Black.

Toliver was the only repeat selection to the first team, and her 18-point average ranks second to Wright's 21-point average in the ACC scoring race. Littles was the only one of the five who was not picked to the conference's preseason team.

The team was determined by the league's 45-person panel that includes coaches, school representatives and media members.

Toliver and Coleman helped Maryland share the league regular-season title with Florida State and claim the No. 1 seed in this week's ACC tournament for the first time since 1989.

Coleman ranks fourth in the ACC, scoring 17 points per game, and is seventh with almost eight rebounds per game. Wright is third in the ACC in steals, and Littles' 21.4-point average would have led the conference had she played in the required 75 percent of her team's games. Black blocked 61 shots, third-best in the league, and averaged almost 15 points per game.

Four-time-defending tournament champion North Carolina had three players honored but placed no players on the first team. Jessica Breland and Rashanda McCants were named to the second team and point guard Cetera DeGraffenreid was a third-team pick.

Joining Breland and McCants on the second team were the Seminoles' Jacinta Monroe, North Carolina State's Shayla Fields and Boston College's Carolyn Swords.

Florida State had two players named to the third team, Tanae Davis-Cain and Mara Freshour. They were joined by Clemson's Lele Hardy and Georgia Tech's Alex Montgomery.

The ACC tournament begins Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
