Pop singer-songwriter Sheila E. will headline the inaugural ball for Washington's new mayor.
Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser's transition team announced Wednesday that Sheila E. will perform at the ball Friday night at the Washington Convention Center. The 42-year-old Bowser will be sworn in earlier Friday as the seventh elected mayor of the District of Columbia.
Bowser's inaugural committee had raised more than $800,000 for the festivities as of Dec. 10, taking in the maximum $10,000 contribution from numerous lobbyists and developers. The transition hasn't specified how much will be spent on the celebrations. There will also be a 5K race on Thursday and a children's party on Saturday.
Sheila E. is a former collaborator of Prince who came to prominence in the 1980s with hits including “The Glamorous Life.”
