Sherwood: Michael Brown Abandons Bid to Return to D.C. Council

Former D.C. Council member Michael Brown abruptly ended a comeback campaign late Tuesday, dropping out of the April 23 special election for what he said are "personal and family" reasons.

Brown is the son of the late Democratic powerbroker and Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.

Michael Brown was defeated for reelection in a council race last year after his campaign reported the theft of $100,000 in contributions. His campaigns have been marred by financial and management problems.

Brown also dropped out of the 2006 Mayor's race.

He said in a statement Tuesday night that he would not be endorsing any of the six other candidates.
