Mayor Gray: Name Would Be Up for Discussion If Skins Return to D.C.

Even if the D.C. area’s NFL team does move back to the city, the Redskins may not.

If the Redskins ever move back into the District, changing the team name -- which some view as offensive -- would definitely be up for discussion, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray said Wednesday, and it could be a deal breaker.

“I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would love to sit down with the team, and I’m happy to do that, to sit down with the team and others who are concerned with this and see if a change could be made,” Gray said. “Obviously our basketball team did that, with the Bullets being changed to the Wizards.”

The mayor and other city leaders have talked with team officials about possibly building a new stadium on the old RFK Stadium site.
