Loudoun, Prince William Counties Are Key in Battleground Virginia

Virginia holding primary on Super Tuesday

With Super Tuesday next week, the Battleground state of Virginia is getting a lot more attention.
Democrats and Republicans running for president plan to make stops across Virginia with Super Tuesday coming next week.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich brought his Republican presidential campaign to George Mason University in northern Virginia Monday. Kasich is in the second tier of remaining GOP candidates in next week's Super Tuesday primary, but Virginia is in the top tier of battleground states, state GOP Chairman John Whitbeck said.

“We mathematically as Republicans cannot win the White House without winning Virginia.

Democrats in northern Virginia agree the commonwealth -- especially in Loudoun and Prince William counties -- is key.

Loudoun County Democrat Evan MacBeth said his is the swing county in the state.

“I think the Democrats are going to have a great turnout,” MacBeth said about the upcoming primary. “I think we're going to have a very hard fought race between Sen. (Bernie) Sanders and Sen. (Hillary) Clinton.”

Donald Trump is leading the Republican field. Trump Virginia Chairman Corey Stewart of Prince William County says to expect Trump back this week.

“All republicans know that this is a must-win election,” Stewart said. “It's going to determine the fate of not just the presidency, but the balance in the Supreme Court.”

Virginia is one of nine states holding primaries March 1.
