DC Homeland Security Head – Figure in HTJ Case – Resigns

D.C.’s director of homeland security and emergency management resigned her position Tuesday, saying she doesn't want to be a distraction amid an ongoing investigation into D.C. Council corruption, Washington City Paper reported.

A spokesman for Mayor Vincent Gray said the mayor accepted Millicent West’s resignation.

West was referred to, though not identified by name, in court papers this month charging former D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. with diverting public funds for personal use. She was the head of an organization that administered funds that Thomas has admitted stealing. She has denied any wrongdoing.

West did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
