DC Passes Emergency Rule on Medical Marijuana

DC passes emergency rule regarding the use of medical marijuana for chronic illnesses

The District government announced final regulations regarding the use of medical marijuana. The emergency rule regulates the sale and distribution of the drug in the District.

Last year, the D.C. Council passed a law legalizing marijuana dispensaries for patients suffering from chronic and painful conditions.

The rules are being published on an emergency basis to meet the needs of residents suffering from chronic illnesses.

“District residents suffering from painful conditions like cancer and HIV/AIDS will soon have one more option to help relieve their symptoms,” said Mayor Vincent Gray.

Anyone interested in selling medical marijuana must apply for a permit through the Department of Health. Patients will be required to register with the city prior to purchasing the drug.

The emergency rules take effect upon publication in the D.C Register.  It is currently scheduled for April 15.
