Virginia Democrats Claim Narrow Win in Special Election

Democrat Eileen Filler-Corn has been seated in the House of Delegates hours after winning a Fairfax County special election.

That gives the House its full complement of 100 members for the first time in the 2010 General Assembly.

The northern Virginia lobbyist fills the 41st District House seat that Democrat Dave Marsden vacated when he won a Senate seat in a special election.

Filler-Corn defeated Republican Kerry Bolognese by 37 votes out of 11,486 cast, a difference of less than one-third of a percentage point.

Filler-Corn took her oath after Tuesday's results were affirmed by Wednesday morning by the State Board of Election.
