Southeast Watering Hole Catches Fire

A Pennsylvania Avenue watering hole caught flame on Wednesday morning.

D.C. Fire knocked down a fire around 7:30 a.m. at the Tune Inn, at 331 1/2 Pennsylvania Avenue in the Southeast.

The bar is a Capitol Hill institution, and a favorite among Hill staffers.  The no frills interior has been featured on on the Food Network and has earned it a regular mention in Esquire magazine's Best Bars in America list.

D.C. Fire said the kitchen had caught fire, and that damage was moderate.  They initially reported erroneously that the fire was at next door Hawk and Dove, another dank dive favored by Hill staffers.  The mix-up is understandable.
