McDonnell Rushes to Sick Father-in-Law's Side

Virginia governor abruptly cancels planned bill signing

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell cancelled a planned bill signing due to a family emergency Saturday.

McDonnell and his wife, first lady of Virginia Maureen McDonnell, left to be with the governor's father-in-law, who is "very ill," said a staffer.

The planned ceremonial bill signing was for legislation to increase funding for the Virginia Wine Promotion Fund. It was planned to be held at King Family Vineyard in Crozet, Va.
