Goes Offline as Last-Minute Applicants Flock to Site - NBC4 Washington Goes Offline as Last-Minute Applicants Flock to Site

How Telehealth Technology is Revolutionizing Healthcare was down for several hours Monday as last-minute applicants flocked to the site on the last day for signups.

A software bug knocked the website offline around 3:20 a.m. Monday. When trying to access the log-in on, users were met with an error page that read, "The system isn't available at the moment. We're currently performing maintenance. Please try again later."

Monday is the final day to sign up for health insurance for 2014.

According to a statement from the Department of Health and Human Services, "The tech team will gradually bring the site online in order to meet the high consumer demand once the issue is resolved."

Customers can also complete their applications by phone by calling 1-800-318-2596.

Over 6 million people have signed up for healthcare on the online exchanges, with at least two million joining in the last month alone, according to the White House. The Obama administration hopes the last-minute signups before the March 31 deadline will compensate for its disappointing initial rollout.
