Finance Reports Due for D.C. Mayoral Candidates

Candidates for mayor of the District of Columbia are trying to show strength before their first fundraising deadline.

The first campaign finance reports for next year's race are due Wednesday.

There are five declared candidates for mayor: D.C. councilmembers Muriel Bowser, Jack Evans and Tommy Wells; former State Department official Reta Lewis; and businessman Christian Carter. All are Democrats. The primary is April 1, much earlier than it has been in the past.

Mayor Vincent Gray has not said whether he intends to seek re-election. His 2010 campaign is the subject of a long-running federal investigation, and three former aides have pleaded guilty to felonies.
