Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., will be President-elect Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, Politico reported.
It is the first appointment by Obama since his election Tuesday.
Emanuel, 49, the fourth-ranking House Democratic leader who was on track to eventually become House Speaker, served as a strategist under President Bill Clinton.
