D.C. Council Campaign Enters Final Stages

Schwartz running as write-in candidate

Two at-large seats on the D.C. Council will be at stake in Tuesday's election, and the candidates are making the final push for voters.

Democratic incumbent Kwame Brown appears likely to win a second term in the heavily Democratic city. Under the Home Rule Charter, the other seat must go to a non-Democrat.

Republican Patrick Mara, independent Michael Brown and incumbent Republican Carol Schwartz are among the favorites in the field of six candidates for the second seat. Schwartz lost her September primary and is running as a write-in candidate, however Mayor Adrian Fenty's political operatives are working for her campaign.

The other candidates are independents Dee Hunter and Mark Long and Statehood Green candidate David Schwartzman.
