Audit Finds Irregularities, Mistakes With Kwame Brown's Campaign Finances

The audit of D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown's campaign finances found a number of irregularities and mistakes from Brown's 2008 re-election bid to the D.C. Council, including more than $100,000 in unreported contributions and $170,000 in unreported expenditures.

It also found the campaign made $380,000 in payments to a company called Banner Consulting Services, which then quickly directed about $240,000 of that money to a company owned by Brown's brother, Che. The audit said his brother's company couldn't properly document how it spent $174,000 of this money.

Brown said his campaign funds are properly accounted for and all of the work completed by outside contractors, including his brother, went to helping the campaign.
