“Windfall” Trailer Sells Windmill Documentary as Scary Movie

There's not much to see in the trailer for "Windfall," but what there is manages to evoke a mixture of laughter, dread and depression. All that in just 34 seconds.

The film, from director Laura Israel, tells the story of a small town that finds itself at the mercy of an army of windmills. The trailer, which simply shows what life is like in a house next to a windmill, is shot in the style of horror film, which at first is amusing until you begin to realize how wretched that existence must be.

Here's the official synopsis:

When an multinational corporation offers to revitalize the rural farm town's failing economy with a new industry, residents believe they have found the solution to their economic problems. But the townspeople grow increasingly alarmed as they discover that the company's plans for their town are far from anything they could have ever predicted. Hauntingly filmed, WINDFALL delivers the message that sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel can be an oncoming train.

As intriguing as the trailer is, unfortunately the film's official site offers no more inforomation. This is the directorial debut for Israel, who has worked for years as an editor and photographer.
