The CIA is arming Kurdish forces in Northern Iraq and providing them with ammunition to fight ISIS militants outside Erbil, U.S. officials told NBC News on Monday. The U.S. had been channeling ammunition to the peshmerga through the Iraqi government as part of an agreement with Baghdad, but now small arms and reportedly shoulder-fired weapons are being sent to Kurdish forces through the CIA. Even with the arms shipment, the peshmerga are outgunned by ISIS, and U.S. military airstrikes will continue to support their efforts.
