Sure Kate Middleton has an eye for style, but Queen Elizabeth II—whose Diamond Jubilee weekend is underway in the UK—has been rocking royally chic looks for more than six decades. Known for her tweedy pastel jackets, glitzy brooches and, of course, statement-making hats, Queen Elizabeth II is as much a style icon as she is a regent.
For a royally inspired summer look, we paired Giambattista Valli's floral-print sundress ($1,700 at Net-a-Porter) with J.Crew's hot pink tweed jacket ($268 at J.Crew) and Miu Miu's bow-embellished mules ($690 at Barneys New York). Cathy Waterman's rustic diamond studs ($5,940 at Barneys New York) lend a hint of glitz while a woven pink Union Clutch clutch by Alexander McQueen ($1,995 at ForwardForward) is a cheeky nod to Her Highness' homeland.
Topshop's ladylike mint sundress ($250 at Topshop) dresses up a casual cropped white jacket ($130 at Mango) and dainty pink sling-backs ($50 at Zara). To give the look a little throne-appropriate polish, we added Miu Miu's applique handbag ($1,810 at Net-a-Porter) and a glitzy faux-crystal necklace from J.Crew ($98 at J.Crew).
We're certain the Queen would find lots to love about Dolce & Gabbana's floral-print pencil skirt ($447 at Net-a-Porter), which we styled with a ruffled silk shell ($98 at J.Crew) and classic opera coat ($150 at Topshop). A frilly white sunhat ($59 at GreatGlovez.com) picks up the flowery motif in the skirt, while low pink pumps ($84 at Topshop) and shimmery Kenneth Jay Lane earrings ($115 at Net-a-Porter) make the look pop.
Christopher Kane's elegant mint brocade dress ($1,920 at Net-a-Porter) looks fit for a queen paired with a white tweed opera coat ($169 at Mango) and Monique Pean's pave diamond studs ($3,220 at Barney's New York). To finish the look, we added formal white gloves ($6.99 at Sears) and a matching pair of comfy-chic d'orsay pumps ($228 at J.Crew).
Of course, no queen's wardrobe is complete without a few over-the-top ballgowns, and Vivienne Westwood's flouncy lilac confection ($4,485 at Net-a-Porter) is begging to be worn to a royal affair. We paired the dress with a draped lilac jacket ($110 at Topshop) and bejeweled Manolos ($755 at Barneys New York) to keep the look suitably conservative, while long satin gloves ($13 at Buy.com) and a shimmery Tom Binns necklace (Available at Tom Binns stores) lend a super-glam appeal.
